Southernmost Queens

"Southernmost Queens" is a photographic essay that captures a moment in time within the long history of drag queens that perform at the 801 Cabaret in Key West, Florida. The nightly show features a cavalcade of queens from all over the world, some of whom are just starting out in drag, and some that have been doing it for over 30 years. The real world (or “mainland,” as they call it) gives them their own set of hurdles and challenges. When they are on that stage though, that’s their space and they make the rules – and that is where these queens can fully express their craft, feel supported and celebrate the lives they lead at the end of the road.
